Canadian violinist, Christina (Jung Yun) Choi is a third year fellow at the New World Symphony. Recipient of the 2015 Hnatyshyn Developing Artist grant, Ms. Choi played her first concerto performance in 2006 with the Queensland Symphony, and since then, has performed around the world in venues such as Koerner Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and Carnegie Hall.

Born in South Korea, Ms. Choi began playing the violin at the age of five after watching her older cousins take lessons. Two years later, while visiting relatives in Brisbane, Australia, she met her future long-term teacher, Emin Tagiev. That moment became a turning point in her life, and after receiving a music scholarship to attend boarding school in Australia, she went on to complete her undergraduate and graduate degrees at the Glenn Gould School and the Colburn School, respectively. Alongside Mr. Tagiev, Ms. Choi’s primary teachers include David Zafer, Mayumi Seiler, Paul Kantor, Barry Shiffman, and Martin Beaver.

Outside of music, Ms. Choi likes to hike, bake, and search for good food and coffee with friends.
